The right to decide on one's own death has ceased to be a theoretical debate to become an alarming statistical reality that reflects a growing trend towards the demedicalization of suffering through voluntary termination. This phenomenon is not isolated; it is part of a context of social transformation where the perception of human dignity and support for dependency are colliding with the response capacity of the current healthcare system.<\/p><\/p><p><h3>The state of play: figures that triple the national average<\/h3><\/p><p><p>Recent data published by the <strong>Ministry of Health<\/strong> reveal a deep territorial disparity. During the year <strong>2025<\/strong>, <strong>Catalonia<\/strong> has registered a rate of <strong>14 requests per 100,000 inhabitants<\/strong>. However, for many sectors, the continuous increase in requests is a symptom of a \u00abculture of death\u00bb that prioritizes the elimination of the patient over the establishment of robust and accessible palliative care.<\/p><\/p><p><p>The discussion now centers on whether euthanasia is becoming an \u00abadministrative solution\u00bb for a system that does not know how to manage chronic dependency. While for some it is an act of freedom, for others it is the result of social and emotional pressure in an environment where family support has eroded.
