A campaign to ignite football passion in the streets
Oviedo's commercial sector has decided to fully throw its support behind the pre-match atmosphere ahead of this Saturday, October 3rd, when the Spanish national team faces the Czech Republic. The City Council's Department of Economic Promotion and Employment has launched the initiative «Oviedo commerce, champion like our National Team», an action designed to transform local shops into true meeting and cheering points for residents. In total, they will distribute 10,000 pennants i 10,000 clappers through a network of 230 establishments spread across the city, ensuring that the sporting spirit reaches every corner of Oviedo's neighborhoods.
Local commerce as a social and economic engine
The Councilor for Economy, Digital Transformation, and Social Policies, Leticia González, wanted to see firsthand how the campaign was being received by visiting several iconic businesses on Arquebisbe Guisasola Street. There, she was able to witness the enthusiasm of Sant Llàtzer Hardware Store, la De la Uz Perfumery, D-Ruta i la Elies Stationery Shop, four representative examples of the commercial fabric that bring life to this commercial hub. The councilor stressed that «once again, commerce proves that it is always ready to get involved in everything that happens in Oviedo», highlighting the sector's capacity to act as a social driver beyond its strictly commercial function.
The goal is not only to decorate shop windows, but to leverage the momentum of a highly significant sporting event to generate atmosphere in the city, bring Oviedo's residents closer to their trusted local shops, and make these establishments an active part of the collective celebration. This strategy of alliance between public administration and private enterprise recalls other successful initiatives in Spain, such as the recent two-million-euro injection that has reactivated commerce in Mérida through bonuses and direct aid, or the Sant Francesc Commerce Festival in Talavera, which seeks to revitalize the local fabric by recovering traditions.
A massive response that reinforces local identity
The massive response from merchants, with nearly two hundred confirmed sign-ups in just a few days, reflects the health of a sector that understands collaboration as a tool for survival and growth. The visibility provided by displaying the national colors in shop windows and in the hands of customers creates a unique synergy: customers perceive local shops as part of their community and emotions, not just as simple suppliers. This shared vision is what allows campaigns of this type to transcend a one-off event and become a strategic tool for loyalty and territorial cohesion.
With the match drawing near, the streets of Oviedo will begin to be dyed red and yellow thanks to the coordinated effort of a commercial sector that, once again, proves to be the true champion of the city's daily life.
